Wildlife viewing ...
Axio's Wait-a-while Rainforest
Tours was founded in 1982 & has led the area in the spotting of wildlife
in the wild tours with ongoing accolades in travel guides such as Frommers,
Fodders, Lonely Planet Wildlife Guide, Australien Der Osten, etc. as well as
guiding many international journalists/film/TV crews creating productions of
the area.
Wait-a-while's guides are professional wildlife guides with both many years
experience in the Wet Tropics & a passion for wildlife.
Aside of strengthening the importance of conservation our task as an
organisation is two fold:-
-
To
safely introduce visitors to the Wet Tropics & snap-shot as broad as
reasonably possible the flora & fauna in the rainforests &
surrounding habitat giving superior spotting, identification & interpretation
-
To safely guide academics &
dedicated enthusiasts to specific areas of interests whether it is for
general or target species spotting
Most visitors to Australia leave complaining of not seeing wildlife "as
seen on TV". This is usually due to not understanding that most of
Australia's wildlife is nocturnal & that very few tours are anything but
scenic tours. Wait-a-while is one of the few operators who leave the
infamous destination names for the masses instead taking its' guests to areas
& at times where wildlife in the wild lives. Furthermore within the
rainforest of the Wet Tropics most wildlife is found above an elevation of
350m (1,100ft) & given that 80% of wildlife is arboreal (canopy dwelling)
it can only be viewed in the mountains at night & from the ground looking
up. Birding of course is diurnal but to cover the full range of species
found here Birders have to visit coastal, highland & upland as well as dry & wet areas for the full spread of species.
Wait-a-while caters for individual visitors by way of daily (& extended)
scheduled tours & private charters of 1 to 10 guests per trip &
special interest groups of up to 40-50 in modules of 10 or less.
